Understand the building first

My approach is straightforward: understand the building, establish what needs doing and carry out the work properly. That starts with asking the right questions and investigating the cause of a problem before recommending a solution.

Where existing materials can be retained and repaired, we consider that carefully. Where more substantial work is needed, I believe in explaining why and setting out a clear scope from the outset.

Materials, details and workmanship

Our work ranges from roof repairs, natural slate and specialist leadwork to roof terraces and extensive home refurbishments.

I have a particular interest in period and listed properties, where the choice of materials, construction details and quality of workmanship can make a lasting difference to the building.

Bringing the right people together

I take an active role in reviewing projects, developing proposals and coordinating the people needed to deliver them. Depending on the scope, that can include our site team, specialist trades, structural engineers, architects and conservation professionals.

Bringing those contributions together helps clients understand who is responsible, what needs to happen and how the work will progress.

Care, communication and discretion

Working in someone’s home carries a responsibility beyond the construction itself. Access, temporary weather protection, neighbouring properties and care around existing interiors all need to be considered.

Clear communication matters just as much, particularly when opening up an older building reveals something that could not reasonably have been seen beforehand.

Many of our clients value privacy, and discretion is part of how we work. We respect confidentiality and only share project details and photographs where permission has been given.

Honest advice and clear decisions

I want clients to feel confident in the decisions they make and in the team carrying out the work. For me, that means honest advice, realistic expectations and a properly finished job.
