The brief
The original asphalt roof was leaking at several points and the existing plastic domed rooflights limited how the space could be used. The client wanted a reliable new roof build-up and a more practical terrace surface, without treating the waterproofing and finished deck as separate projects.
Rebuilding from the deck upwards
The roof was re-boarded with 18 mm plywood before a vapour control layer, 100 mm PIR insulation and EPDM waterproofing were installed. The plastic domed rooflights were replaced with custom walk-on glass units, allowing them to sit safely within the usable terrace area.
A Wallbarn iDecking system was then installed above the waterproofing. The support and finished surface were coordinated with the roof falls, drainage, perimeter details and access requirements so that the terrace remained maintainable and the membrane was not treated as an afterthought.
The result
The completed terrace combined improved thermal performance, durable waterproofing and a cleaner, more usable outdoor surface. Integrating the walk-on rooflights and deck at specification stage helped resolve the practical details before they became site conflicts.
