The brief
The client wanted to turn an underused roof area into an outdoor terrace with a light, open character. Achieving that meant more than laying a deck: the existing pitched roof had to be redesigned as a flat roof, the window opening altered for full-height door access, and the guarding integrated with the building and the approved proposal.
Planning was a material part of the project. The roof form and external appearance changed, so the design and construction needed to follow the consented scheme rather than evolve informally on site.
Coordinated roof, access and terrace details
ER Group London formed the new flat-roof build-up and installed an iDecking terrace system above it. The existing window was replaced with a full-height door to create practical access from the home.
Full-height glass panels were used at the terrace edge. The guarding was tested for wind loading beyond the project requirement, providing documented performance without compromising the open appearance requested by the client.
The result
The completed project created a usable roof terrace while resolving the waterproofing, access, surface and guarding as one coordinated piece of work. It is a useful example of ER Group London’s ability to connect specialist roofing with a wider residential alteration.
